Headaches and Migraines

I have had numerous patients in the past that thought headaches were normal because they had them so often. Most thought that they were always going to have headaches and ‘pop ibuprofen like candy.’ One particular patient had headaches daily and she had dealt with them ‘for as long as she could remember.’ To me, that would be unacceptable, but to her that was life.

Her frequency and duration of headaches diminished with her care to the point where she couldn’t remember the last time she had a headache. Her co-worker came up to me at the office and thanked me for taking care of her friend. She reports that ‘she is like a different person now. She is happier, more focused and friendly at work.’ Those are the moments that I love doing what I do. I love improving someone’s quality of life.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Many people self-diagnose that they have carpal tunnel syndrome if they have tingling/numbness in one or both hands because it is a common ailment that people have become more familiar with over the years. Unfortunately, it never occurs to people that the symptoms they are experiencing may not be a result of an issue in their hand(s) at all. A thorough examination can reveal if the problem stems from the hands themselves or commonly the neck.

Digestive issues (acid reflux, irritable bowel syndrome)

Some patients think it sounds crazy that chiropractic care can help with digestive issues. One particular patient came to me for help with her neck and low back pain and one day during her care mentioned that she had tremendous improvement in her irritable bowel syndrome (which I didn’t even know she suffered from). She wanted to know if I thought there was a correlation with her improvement in digestion and her chiropractic care. I said of course! We reviewed how the nervous system controls the organs of the body, particularly digestion and she was astonished. She said, “I came here for my neck and low back and have improvements in digestion; its like cherry and sprinkles on top!”

Vertigo

I’ve had numerous patients that have ‘dizzy spells’ that they ‘can’t seem to get rid of.’ People can have dizziness due to side effects of medication, blood pressure issues, dehydration among other causes, but the symptoms may also arise from the crystals in the structures in the inner ear. Epley’s maneuver which is a series of specific positions for the head, can aid in ‘calming’ the crystals in the ear which in turn decreases the vertigo. These crystals are the ones in the ear responsible for the sensation of being on a roller coaster even after you have gotten off the ride!
